<p>PURPOSE: A system and method for wireless local area network (WLAN) airtime fairness are provided to offer WLAN airtime fairness through the accurate estimation of available airtime which can be distributed to mobile stations associated with a wireless access point. CONSTITUTION: A wireless access point performs first monitoring for a first utilization measure of a channel (502). The wireless access point performs second monitoring for a second utilization measure of the channel through multiple mobile stations associated with the wireless access point during a second time period (504). The availability of the channel is determined based on the first and second utilization measures (506). The determined channel availability is distributed among the multiple mobile stations (508).
