PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a retardation film having a large in-plane retardation Re and a low Haze value.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a retardation film comprises: stretching at least uni-axially a film comprising at least one kind of acicular or spindle-shaped particles having optical anisotropy and a transparent polymer; and then heat-treating the film. A stretching temperature during the stretching process is controlled to be lower than (Tg (glass transition temperature) of the film including the particles)+10°C, and an initial strain speed γ and a stress &sgr; are controlled to satisfy 0.5×10sec<γ<5.0×10secand &sgr;<30 MPa, respectively. |
