The present invention relates to an isolated polynucleotide comprising ectoine- and hydroxyectoine-producing genes, preferably with at least two copies of the gene that encodes the ectoine hydroxylase enzyme, expression of which is directed by at least one promoter active under conditions of low salinity and temperature. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the vector and the cell comprising said polynucleotide and to an ectoine and hydroxyectoine production method based on said cell. Preferably, said cell is of the species Chromohalobacter salexigens and is incapable of expressing the native ectA, ectB, ectC and ectD genes.
