The objective of the present invention is to provide a cutting tool using a cutting insert for which corner changing can be performed, the tool having a large number of usable corners, offering exceptional economic value, reducing cutting resistance during machining, and ensuring high rigidity. At the distal end of a tool holder (3), a negative-type cutting insert (2) that is a regular polygon having 5-8 corners is mounted in a state in which the edge line between two adjacent outer peripheral surfaces is the end cutting edge (7), one of the two surfaces adjacent to the outer peripheral surface (2c) having a negative rake angle, the other being a front relief surface, and the edge line between the rake surface and one of the vertical surfaces is the side cutting edge (6), and a state in which corner changing can be performed. |
