PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a catalyst for producing methacrylic acid with an excellent catalyst life.SOLUTION: A method is for producing a catalyst for producing methacrylic acid including a heteropolyacid compound including phosphorus, molybdenum, vanadium, antimony and a specific element X, in which V/Mo, Sb/Mo and X/Mo are in a specified range, and includes: a step (1) of obtaining an aqueous slurry A by mixing a compound containing molybdenum, a compound including antimony and a compound containing the element X with water; a step (2) of obtaining an aqueous slurry B; a step (3) of obtaining an aqueous slurry C by mixing the aqueous slurry A and the aqueous slurry B; and a step (4) of drying and calcining the aqueous slurry C. In each of the aqueous slurries A-C, V/Mo and X/Mo are adjusted to be in a specific range, and in the aqueous slurries A and C, Sb/Mo is adjusted to be in a specific range. |
