The device (1) has two attaching units (21, 23) for attaching an aligning unit and displaceably arranged relative to each other to pretension the aligning unit against the attaching units. The attaching units are vertically alignable, and a measuring tape (25) is arranged parallel to the attaching units. The attaching units and the tape are arranged on a guide rail (11) and a movable beam (13), where the rail is attached at a room ceiling (5). The arm is movably held in the rail. Surfaces coming into contact with curtains are made of non-corrosive and non-staining stainless steel or chrome. The attaching units are designed as metal hooks. An independent claim is also included for a method for aligning curtains.
