Provided are a game control device, a game control method, a program, a recording medium, and a game system, with which a game is made to progress while giving a sense of familiarity with a wide range of other users, without being restricted to other users for whom relationships are pre-assigned. With this game control method, user identification information of a user and the user's game-related attributes are associated and logged. On the basis of information relating to a prescribed operation input, one of a plurality of areas is selected as a subject area which is a play subject of a first user who is playing the game. If a prescribed area is selected as the subject area of the first user, then the timing with which beneficial effects in the game are given to the first user is adjusted on the basis of either the number of users who have played, or who are playing, in the prescribed area among the second users with whom the same attributes as the first user are associated.
