The brake assisting system is supported at the time of application of emergency brake in a vehicle. The distinction between emergency braking and the normal braking is determined, when both the brakes exceed both the braking pressure threshold value and a braking pressure gradient threshold value which are defined for the brake intervention of brake assistant. The braking pressure threshold value and the braking pressure gradient threshold value are changed depending on one of the driving situation characteristics.
