PURPOSE: A power supply unit using a secondary battery is provided to improve charging/discharging efficiency of a storage battery and to extend the usage time of using the secondary battery with one charging, by using one secondary battery in supplying a power source to a load and the other battery in charging. CONSTITUTION: A corresponding power supply unit includes a first battery (1) and a second battery (2) as secondary batteries, an inverter (30), a charger (40), a controller (20) and a relay (10). The inverter inverts a DC voltage of the battery into an AC voltage and then supplies the AC voltage to a load (50). A charger (40) rectifies an output AC of the inverter of a commercial AC power into DC and then charges the battery in a charge mode with the DC. The controller controls these. The relay connects the battery to the inverter or the charger according to the control operation of the controller which designates a discharge mode or a charge mode of the first and the second battery.
