摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of reducing light escape due to a columnar spacer.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate 11 and a second substrate 12 arranged facing each other; a plurality of columnar spacers 20 each composed of a liquid crystal resin and arranged between the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12; a liquid crystal layer 19 provided between the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12; and a first polarizer 31 and a second polarizer 32 arranged facing each other across the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12. For each of the plurality of columnar spacers 20, refractive index anisotropy is roughly equal to a liquid crystal material of the liquid crystal layer 19, and the molecular alignment state thereof is roughly equal to the liquid crystal layer 19 when voltage is not applied. Then, in the liquid crystal layer 19, retardation between the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12 is roughly equal respectively in an area where each of the plurality of columnar spacers 20 is arranged and the other area.
