The cover has a cover seam provided as a tear seam and torn during a release case of an air bag system of a vehicle seat (10) and releasing an aperture for an airbag-air cushion of an air bag module. A force transmission element i.e. drill tape, is arranged on an inner part of the cover and connected with a cover-side end in a region of the cover seam with cover parts of the cover, where the cover parts are connected by the cover seam. A free structure-side end of the cover comprises a fastening element, which is connected with a structure (12) of the vehicle seat. The drill tape is made of low elasticity material. The free structure-side end of the cover is designed as a finger-shaped outlet part. The air bag module is designed as a lateral protection structure. The fastening element is in a shape of J-profile. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle seat.
