PURPOSE: A method for performing the improved deep packet inspection (DPI) and an apparatus thereof are provided to omit the DPI toward the repeating payload, thereby improving the DPI performance. CONSTITUTION: Based on the search result of a DPI performance record search unit, a DPI performing unit (403) performs the DPI toward the data packet if the DPI performance record does not exist. If the DPI performance record exists, the DPI performing unit performs the DPI toward the header of the data packet. If the DPI performing unit performs the DPI toward the data packet, the database (404) stores the DPI performance record. The DPI performance record comprises the information for distinguishing the payload of data packet and the performance result of DPI toward the payload.
