摘要 An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the process efficiency and reduce process cost by forming a phase difference compensating layer within a substrate, and simplify processes, reduce a process time, and improve alignment accuracy by using a black matrix formed on a color filter substrate as the exposure mask of the phase difference compensating layer without a separate mask. An LCD device comprises first and second substrates(330), a black matrix(332), a color filter layer(334), a phase difference compensating layer(338), a column spacer, a seal pattern, and a liquid crystal layer. The first and second substrates are disposed oppositely to each other and have plural pixel areas(P) spaced from each other at regular intervals. The black matrix is positioned in a border portion between the outline of the first substrate and the pixel areas in the first substrate and has an area corresponding to the pixel areas as an open portion. The color filter layer is formed in the pixel areas on the black matrix as the border portion between colors. The phase difference compensating layer is formed in a position corresponding to the open portion in the upper part of the color filter layer and is composed of a curable liquid crystal substance. The column spacer has height corresponding to a cell gap between the first and second substrates in a position of the black matrix. The seal pattern is formed in the outline of between the first and second substrates. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates.
