PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the display of a stereoscopic image by evaluating not only the position of a viewer, but also the resolution of the stereoscopic image, and cross talk when using a birefringent element.SOLUTION: According to the embodiment, a stereoscopic image display apparatus includes a display element in which a plurality of pixels are arranged in a matrix, and an optical element variable in optical characteristics. The stereoscopic image display apparatus includes an acquiring section, a calculating section, and a control section. The acquiring section acquires person information including the position of each person observing a stereoscopic image. Based on the person information, the calculating section calculates a weight indicating the satisfactory degree of a stereoscopic view for each person. The control section selects an optical characteristic parameter corresponding to the weight calculated by the calculating section, and controls the optical characteristics of the optical element on the basis of the optical characteristic parameter. |
