A household appliance includes a treatment space and a door that is pivotable about a horizontally running axis so as to close the treatment space. The door includes a door spring configured to slow down a movement of the door when it is being pivoted down. A sensor is configured to monitor a functionality of the door spring. A deceleration device is configured to be activated in the event of a failure of the door spring as recognized by the sensor and to slow down movement of the door when it is being pivoted down. |
