<p>A system for raising water from within the sea, especially for use in ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems, Mari culture, hydrogen production or low temperature desalination, comprising a cable suspending a container which is used to raise water at an offshore location to enable it to be transported to a location onshore or a platform located in shallower water by flowing down a hose due to gravity. In one arrangement part of the hose extends below the waters surface. In other arrangements not forming part of the invention the container may include a contractible section, a syringe or a snorkel to facilitate filling and emptying and the cable system may be suspended by a submerged buoyant platform. Alternatively, the containers may be removed from the cable when they are being emptied to allow other containers to raise water at the same time.</p> |
