[Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable reclining chair comprising a link system pivoted to a support 22 at 38, Fig. 1, the link system consisting of a lower extension 40 of the back 34, a seat 36, and two connecting links 42, 48, situated below the plane of the seat and a leg rest 66 pivoted to the seat 36 at 50 is provided with a guiding link 52 pivoted to the support at 54 and controlling element 56 operatively connected to the leg rest 66 the element 56 being telescopic to vary the position of the leg rest at will whereby movement in inclination of the reclining chair causes corresponding movement of the leg rest 66. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the seat 236, and back extension are pivoted to the support 222 at spaced points 239, 238 and in which there are two lower connecting links 242, 292 the latter of which is in rigid connection with the guiding link 252. In this arrangement the controlling element 256 is connected to the leg rest 266 through a controlling link 201 which may be attached to any one of a number of lugs 203 on the leg rest and the controlling element and controlling link may both be varied in effective length to vary the relative inclination of the seat and leg rest independently of the movement of the link system. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the controlling element 456, in rigid connection with the guiding link 452, is provided with an adjusting link 431 to the end of which the controlling link 401 is pivoted. Stops 435, 447 are provided whereby the adjusting link 431 may be positioned in prolongation of either the controlling element 456 or the controlling link 401 for the adjustment of the leg rest 466. In this arrangement the guiding link and controlling element and link are mounted as a unit in a casing support 422. In arrangements in which the end of the controlling element is in slidable contact with the leg rest the latter may be adjusted about its pivot with the seat, say 536, Fig. 14, away from the controlling element which then only operates the leg rest 566 when the adjustment of the chair is of sufficient amount to bring the controlling element into contact again with the leg rest, the leg rest being held in adjusted position away from the controlling element by a clampable and adjustable rod 559.
