[Class 81 (ii)] In a dental amalgam carrier the reciprocating plunger 18 is connected to the operating rod 14 by a section of inextensible flexible shafting 17 comprising an axial core wire 19 which prevents extension and coiled layers 20, 21 and 22 which prevent axial compression of the section. The tubular handle 1 has a collar 2 on which is mounted the barrel 3 which carries the plunger 18 in its laterally-bent end portion 4. The handle is provided with an adjustable gland 7 serving as an abutment for a nut 15 on the rod 14 to vary the position of the plunger 18 in the nozzle 5, the nut 15 being forced into engagement with the gland 7 by a spring 16 when the button 12 is released. |
