<p>The generator (10) has a position signal output unit (24) connected with a sensor device (14). The sensor device detects relative position and relative position alteration of two relatively movable parts e.g. measuring scale (16) and sensor (18), and generates a position signal based on the detected position and/or the alteration. A function signal output unit (26) is connected with a monitoring device (34), which determines a functional state of the sensor device to generate a function signal based on the determined state and provides the function signal at the function signal output unit. The function signal output unit is passive output unit. The measuring scale is designed as a circular disk. The sensor is designed as optical, magnetic, capacitive or inductive sensors.</p> |
