<p>A pipe insert 10 (also referred to as a sealed stiffener) comprising a body 12, which defines a fluid flow path, with a barrel portion 20 at one end and a head portion 34 at the other end. The barrel portion is inserted into the free end of a pipe. The barrel portion is provided with a circumferential seal 22 in a groove 24, preferably this is an O-ring seal, for sealing cooperation with the inside of the pipe. The head portion projects from the free end of the pipe and has a larger outer diameter than the barrel portion. This larger diameter produces a stop 42 which stops the pipe sleeving any further onto the pipe insert. The head portion is also provided with a circumferential seal 36 which cooperates with the inside of a pipe connector socket. Seal 36 is also preferably an O-ring and the groove 38 forms flanges 50 and 52. Preferably flange 50 has an angled surface 46 tapering towards the barrel portion to aid in removing the pipe insert from the pipe connector socket.</p> |
