The lighting unit consists of a number of modules [6a] having a hexagonal shape that fit together to form a dish shaped unit that focuses light onto a central region. Each module has a number of lighting elements [10] each with a lens [11] that are coupled to a regulator to control dimming. The lighting elements can be coloured light emitting diodes.
