Print processing of a variable print job in which pages having identical finishing settings are grouped as subsets of a plurality of pages to be printed in each record is executed for respective records, and a print error is detected. The print processing for the record is suspended when it is determined that the print error is detected in the first page in the record. The print processing for the subset is suspended when it is determined that the print error is detected in the first page in the subset. When it is detected that the print error is recovered, the suspended print processing is restarted.
