PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose chemical conversion and/or passivation coating for treating a metal surface, such as steel and aluminum, which is escaped from chemical conversion coating of a chromium compound and a heavy metal salt of phosphoric acid, and a method of the same.SOLUTION: This composition includes a colloidal oxide particle, such as a metal oxide or silica particle, an aqueous solution of partial or complete condensate of organic functional silane, various organic solvents not including a harmful air pollutant, and a stabilizer selected from the group consisting of alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, pyrrolidones, and polyether silanes. In a method for treating a metal surface, the metal surface is brought into contact with the coating composition, and the chemical conversion or passivation coating is formed on the metal surface. |
