PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of lowering a generation rate of read errors and the manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: A glass substrate 1G with a magnetic recording layer 20 formed thereon has a concentrically curved shape so as to make one main surface side concave. Since the surface of a magnetic disk can be rotated while maintaining high flatness in the case that the magnetic disk is rotated at a high speed to execute recording and playback by a magnetic head in this way, the generation rate of read errors in the magnetic head can be lowered.
