A method for preparing a tin oxide powder is provided to produce the tin oxide powder having a small particle size, a uniform particle size distribution, and a wide specific surface area by regulating a reaction temperature of metal tin and nitric acid. A method for preparing a tin oxide powder includes the steps of: charging metal tin and water into a reactor; keeping the reactor at a first temperature, and thereto adding nitric acid to perform a reaction; and reacting the metal tin with the nitric acid at a second temperature. The second temperature is lower than the first temperature. A ratio of the nitric acid to the metal tin ranges from 0.9 to 3.6. Further, the first temperature is 80 to 140 °C and the second temperature is 50 °C or less. |
