摘要 PURPOSE: A mobile robot and a controlling method thereof are provided to recognize the position of the mobile robot using video information and obstacle information. CONSTITUTION: A mobile robot comprises a first characteristic line extracting unit(10), a second characteristic line extracting unit(20), and a position recognizing unit(40). The first characteristic line extracting unit extracts characteristic points from video information obtained from surroundings, and extracts a first characteristic line using the characteristic points. The second characteristic line extracting unit extracts one or more second characteristic lines using obstacle information about obstacles of surroundings. The position recognizing unit matches the first and second characteristic lines, and recognizes the position based on the matching result.
