PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autonomous network which solves a defect in a conventional network solution.SOLUTION: There are provided a system and method for implementing a distributed video and/or audio communication through a network such as a power-line communications network. As an example, the network is divided into periodic periods, and each cycle includes a plurality of time slots. Timing of the cycle is determined by a cycle master assuming a position of a time slot, when an effective cycle cannot be detected on the network while desiring transmission. Part of each cycle is reserved for transmission of asynchronous data, and the remaining is used for an isochronous stream. A transmitter acquires one or more slots by arbitration for selecting a winner on the basis of priority of a stream to be transmitted, before transmitting a new stream. The transmitter can acquire an additional slot in order to improve quality, integrity, or safety of a stream. The mechanism of the invention has compatibility with an old type CDMA apparatus. |
