PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect density of a test pattern from which the influence of a medium on which a test pattern is to be printed is removed.SOLUTION: A printing apparatus includes: a light emitting section capable of adjusting a quality of light by input of a first digital value; and a light receiving section configured to output a second digital value corresponding to a quantity of received light. On the basis of a second digital value when a blank area is irradiated with light by a light emitting section, to which the first digital value set on the basis of the reference value of the second digital value has been input, a first approximate expression indicating the relation between the first and the second digital values is obtained. An estimated value of the first digital value in which the second digital value is used as a reference value is obtained from the first approximate expression. A second approximate expression is obtained on the basis of the second digital value when a test pattern is irradiated with light by the light emitting section, to which the set first digital value has been input. A second digital value when an estimated value is input to the light emitting section as the first digital value is obtained from the second approximate expression. Thereby, the printing apparatus detects the density of the test pattern. |
