PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance liquid for ink jet recording which exhibits a high solvent power for dissolving solid ink, to provide an ink set for ink jet recording which suppresses ejection failure such as curved ejection or non-ejection of ink, and to provide a method for forming images.SOLUTION: There is provided a maintenance liquid for ink jet recording which contains a compound represented by general formula (I) [Ris a 8-22C linear or branched hydrocarbon group, or -C(=O)R(Ris a 7-21C linear or branched hydrocarbon group); Ris a linking group represented by -(CHO)-(CHO)-; Ris a linking group represented by -(CHO)-(CHO)-; wherein m=0 to 4, n=0 to 4, p=0 to 4, and q=0 to 4 (m+n≥2, p+q≥2, m≠n, and p≠q for m and n in Rand p and q in R) and wherein a=0 to 50, b=0 to 50, c=0 to 50, and d=0 to 50 (1≤a+b+c+d≤50)]. |
