PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure excellent charging efficiency in the initial state of a battery, while enhancing the durability life of partial charge/discharge as compared with prior art.SOLUTION: In the alkaline storage battery including a positive electrode employing nickel hydroxide as a main positive electrode active material, a negative electrode and an alkaline electrolyte, zinc is added to the nickel hydroxide becoming the main positive electrode active material of the positive electrode. For the nickel mass in the positive electrode active material, 3-8 mass% of zinc is added and any one kind or more of compound, selected from a tungsten compound, a molybdenum compound and a niobium compound, is added to the alkaline electrolyte. Mass of the metal element in 1 g of the alkaline electrolyte is 5-34 mg, and the amount of alkaline electrolyte per unit positive electrode capacity of the alkaline storage battery is 2.4-3.3 g/Ah. |
