Disclosed is a method for triggering a machine type communication (MTC) device, which comprises: an SGSN/MME receiving trigger information from an MTC-IWF; the SGSN/MME determining that the MTC device is in an unattached state and the MTC device is in a corresponding communication window, and if the MTC device is attached to a network before the communication window ends, the SGSN/MME sending the trigger information to the MTC device; and if the MTC device fails to be attached to a network before the communication window ends, the SGSN/MME sending a trigger information transmission report to the MTC-IWF, and the MTC-IWF sending the trigger information to an SMS-SC for storage and forwarding the trigger information transmission report to a corresponding MTC server. Also disclosed is a system for triggering an MTC device. The present invention can trigger an MTC device in an unattached state. |
