A kit for colouring hair comprising: (i) a composition comprising at least one metal ion in the form ofa saltand/or complex in which the metal is selected from iron, copper, zinc, manganese or mixtures thereof and a cleansing surfactant mix comprising from 3 wt% to 50 wt% of the total shampoo composition of a nonionic surfactant in which the nonionic surfactant comprises condensation products of aliphatic (C8 -C18) primary or secondary linear or branched chain alcohols or phenols with alkylene oxidesand is the major component by weight of the surfactant mix and (ii) a second composition, which comprises from 0.05 wt% to 10 wt% of the total second composition of a polyphenol.
