A method of controlling operation of a mechanism, preferably a dispenser, having a removable component comprising with operation of the dispenser generating a sound with a sound generator provided at least in part on the removable component, monitoring the sound produced, and controlling subsequent operation of the dispensing mechanism as a function of the extent that the sound monitored has a sound profile that appropriately correlates to a pre-selected sound profile.
