Provided is a dielectric resin composition for film capacitors which has a low dielectric loss. The resin composition which constitutes the dielectric resin films (3, 4) of a film capacitor (1) contains a first group of atoms which includes at least one functional group having relatively low molecular polarizability that is selected from a methylene group, an aromatic ring, and an ether group and a second group of atoms which includes at least one functional group having relatively high molecular polarizability that is selected from a hydroxy group, an amino group, and a carbonyl group. The resin composition satisfies the requirement that the value expressed by (total absorption band intensity of the first group of atoms)/(total absorption band intensity of the second group of atoms) is 1.0 or larger. The peak intensity detected in a specific wavenumber range is used as the absorption band intensity of each functional group.
