<p>The invention relates to a reactive power compensator (10). The reactive power compensator (10) comprises a power transformer (12) having an AC bus side (21) and a compensator bus side (20), wherein the power transformer (12) is connectable to an AC grid (11) at the AC bus side (21). The reactive power compensator (10) further comprises a thyristor-switched capacitor (13) and a thyristor-controlled reactor (15) connected to the compensator bus side (20).
