<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for rapidly charging a portable terminal. The rapid charging apparatus for a portable terminal comprises: a power source unit for supplying power for charging; a USB terminal connected to an external portable terminal; a USB line control unit for varying the charging voltage of the portable terminal depending on the type of portable terminal connected to the USB terminal; and a central processing unit for discriminating the type of portable terminal connected to the USB terminal so as to control the operation of the USB line control unit.</p>
