[Problem] To provide a magnetic sensor element capable of detecting an external magnetic field to be detected over a wide range at high sensitivity and low power consumption. [Solution] The present invention is a magnetic sensor element characterized by being provided with a magnetoresistance effect element for detecting an external magnetic field, and a compensating current line for applying a compensating magnetic field to the magnetoresistance effect element by the passage of a compensating current therethrough, and characterized in that the compensating current line includes first and second current lines that are disposed parallel to each other so as to vertically sandwich the magnetoresistance effect element therebetween with an insulating film interposed therebetween, and a connecting conductor that connects the current lines, and the compensating current flows through the first and second current lines in antiparallel directions.
