A surgical cutting and fastening instrument (10) having an end effector (12) including a housing (34) for holding staples and a sled (33) having a camming surface for ejecting the staples. The instrument further includes a console (6) for remote control of the motor, the console comprising hand manipulated controls (18,20). The instrument further includes a means (268,2400) for providing proportionate feedback from the sensors to the hand manipulated controls.
