The method involves assigning an electric machine (76) to an output shaft, where another electric machine (78) is associated to an exhaust gas turbocharger (22) and is electrically connected with the former electric machine. The drive device (10) is selectively operated in two operating modes. The drive device is selectively operated in a third or fourth operating mode, where the combustion engine (12) drives the former electric machine in the generator operation by the output shaft and the exhaust gas turbo charger drives the latter electric machine in its generator operation.
