PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for making it possible to detect a failure in a communication device without adding special hardware.SOLUTION: A communication device for performing packet communication comprises: a first function unit for transmitting packets; a second function unit for receiving the packets transmitted from the first function unit; statistical information collection means for collecting statistical information on the number of the packets transmitted from the first function unit and statistical information on the number of the packets received by the second function unit in a predetermined period; statistical information comparison means for determining whether abnormality has occurred or not by comparing the statistical information on the first function unit and the statistical information on the second function unit collected by the statistical information collection means; and failure determination means for determining whether or not a device failure has occurred between the first and second function units, on the basis of the number of times of determining abnormality continuously in the predetermined period.
