PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for classifying the reliability of distance measurement data on a distance to a workpiece surface measured with a chromatic range sensor (an optical pen) which uses chromatically dispersed light.SOLUTION: A measuring device executes discrimination according to a plurality of predefined reliability evaluation criteria to determine reliability classes of a measurement dataset. The reliability classes are stored as metadata together with a respective workpiece height measurement value determined on the basis of related measurement data. The reliability classes are reported to a user, for example, with being displayed with a graphic display of the measurement data as class graphical indicators of the reliability. With the reliability classes, the user is enabled to make decisions regarding the measurement data on the basis of detailed information. For example, the user can decide to filter data which is included in a certain reliability class, or to adjust a setting for achieving improved measurement precision, etc. |
