PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for producing Eu-activated &bgr; type sialon.SOLUTION: A method for producing a &bgr; type sialon containing Euas a luminescent center as a solid solution, expressed by general formula: SiAlON(0<z<4.2) includes a first heating process of calcining a raw material-mixed powder containing Si, Al and Eu under a nitrogen atmosphere, a second heating process of heat-treating the obtained calcined material under a rare gas atmosphere or under vacuum, and an acid treatment process, wherein the first heating process and the second heating process are performed in the same heating furnace. |
