PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate area determination information free of character attributes and non-character attributes coexisting in each individual character, without the need for performing two kinds of area determination processing to detect a character area and a non-character area.SOLUTION: In an image processing device, image processing is executed on an image having either a character attribute or a non-character attribute defined for each pixel thereof. For a character-attribute area composed of pixels having the character attribute in an image, the image processing device defines a rectangle circumscribing the character-attribute area, and for each of a plurality of pixels around the rectangle, determines whether it is a homochromatic pixel whose difference in color between the color of the pixel concerned and the color of the character-attribute area is smaller than a set value. If a ratio of the number of pixels thus determined to the number of pixels determined to be a homochromatic pixel is equal to or greater than a threshold, the pixels in the character-attribute area are changed from character attribute to non-character attribute by the image processing device. |
