PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch which can efficiently operate, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: An optical switch is a Mach-Zehnder interferometer type optical switch constituted of a line defect waveguide of a photonic crystal. The optical switch includes: two directional couplers 20 and 23; and waveguides 30 and 32 as two paths between the directional couplers. Further, a part or whole part of at least one path of the two paths operates as a resonator which resonates with respect to rays of light with any frequency other than a waveguide band of the waveguide constituting the directional couplers 20 and 23. |
