The device has a steering gear (2) arranged downstream to a steering drive (1). The gear comprises a part (5) that is displaceably and axially coupled with the drive. The part executes axial stroke movements by drive movements of the drive, and guide elements (14, 15) are arranged at the part and pass through grooves (16, 17) with screw-like contour. The grooves are formed on an outer surface of another part (6) of the gear such that the stroke movements are convertible into steering movements performing rotation of the latter part by co-operation of the guide elements with the grooves. The steering drive is designed as an electromotor.
