PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated article in which a crack formed at a surface of the coating hardly propagates into a metallic substrate through a brittle coating, thereby improving fatigue life, and to provide a coating application process.SOLUTION: A coated article 100 includes a metallic surface 102, a first layer positioned proximal to the metallic surface and having a first ductility, and a second layer positioned distal from the metallic surface and having a second ductility. The first ductility is at least about 20% greater than the second ductility. A process includes providing an article including the metallic surface, applying the first layer proximal to the metallic surface having the first ductility, and applying the second layer distal from the metallic surface having the second ductility. |
