PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feed device capable of sufficiently obtaining a conveying force for returning a plurality of double-fed sheets to a stacking table.SOLUTION: A sheet feeder comprises: a stacking table 101 to stack sheets thereon; a feed member 104 to feed sheets on the stacking table 101 to a conveying path; a separating member 105 to separate sheets fed to the conveying path by the feed member 104 one by one; a double feed detection means 107 provided at a downstream side of the feed member 104 in a sheet feed direction and to detect the double feed of sheets fed to the conveying path; return roller pairs 108 and 114 arranged between the feed member 104 and the double feed detection means 107 and to return double fed sheets to the stacking table 101 as they are; a driving means to rotate and drive the return roller pairs 108 and 114 in a direction opposite to the sheet feed direction; and a control means to control the driving means so that, when the double feed detection means 107 detects the double feed of sheets, the return roller pairs 108 and 114 are rotated and driven in a direction opposite to the sheet feed direction. |
