The method involves detecting an amplitude (A) of a sloshing movement of liquid in a liquid tank of a motor car and/or detecting a number of sloshing events of the liquid in the tank by using a tank level sensor in a monitoring time period, which starts with starting of an acceleration phase of the motor car and ends after the lapse of a defined period after the end of the acceleration phase. An error of the sensor is recognized when the amplitude falls below an amplitude threshold level and/or the number of sloshing events falls below a sloshing event threshold level. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to execute a method for validating a tank level sensor utilized in a liquid tank of a motor car (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions to execute a method for validating a tank level sensor utilized in a liquid tank of a motor car.
