A portable electronic device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to decrease a weight of the electronic device by forming a portion of a rear cover using a plastic mold lighter than a base member. A portable electronic device includes a casing. A front cover(120) and a rear cover(130) are coupled with the casing. The rear cover includes a base member(131) and a mold member(132). The base member is die-cast by using a metal material to form the exterior of the rear cover. The mold member is insert-molded to correspond to a shape of the base member and includes at least one coupler which is formed on a surface to face the front cover. The base member contains a magnesium alloy. The mold member contains plastic. |
