PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for diagnosing a camber for a plate mill are provided to diagnose the roll alignment, and the generation directions of the camber with the combination of loads measured by load measuring sensors. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for diagnosing a camber for a plate mill comprises load measuring sensors and a diagnosis module(220). The load measuring sensors attached to roll chock clamps measure loads generated when a steel plate is rolled. The load measuring sensors include an upper entry load measuring sensor, an upper exit load measuring sensor, a lower entry load measuring sensor, and a lower exit load measuring sensor. The upper entry load measuring sensor attached to the entry roll chock clamp of an upper roll measures a first load at the entry of the upper roll. The upper exit load measuring sensor attached to the exit roll chock clamp of the upper roll measures a second load at the exit of the upper roll. The lower entry load measuring sensor attached to the entry roll chock clamp of a lower roll measures a third load at the entry of the lower roll. The lower exit load measuring sensor attached to the exit roll chock clamp of the lower roll measures a fourth load at the exit of the lower roll. The diagnosis module diagnoses the generation directions of the camber based on the combination of the first, the second, the third, and the fourth load.
